injiang Goldwind Science and Technology Company, a leading Chinese wind turbine maker, has won two new orders in the United States, the company said in Beijing Monday.

These two orders comprise of five 1.5 megawatt (MW) direct-drive permanent magnetic wind turbines, sold to clients in the United States, said Goldwind.

The turbines will be installed in two wind farms respectively located in Ohio and Rhode Island, which are funded by local American companies. Goldwind did not say when the two turbines will be delivered.

Despite surging growth of annual output in recent years, most Chinese-made small wind turbines are supplied to the domestic market.Chinese wind turbines have little track record in the U.S. or Europe.

In 2010, China exported 13 wind turbines, totaling 15.55MW. Exporting wind turbines has become a strategic target for leading Chinese wind turbine makers as they compete to take up a larger share of the world market.

Tim Rosenzweig, chief executive of Goldwind USA Inc., the American arm of Goldwind, said “Goldwind has achieved marvelous results in tapping the world market since our American arm was established a year ago. Our company has employed local staff workers and cooperated with local suppliers. It proves effective to promote our internationalized expansion through a localization strategy.”

In early 2010, Goldwind integrated into the grid three 1.5MW wind turbines generators in UILK Wind Farm, Pipestone Town of Minnesota. It was Goldwind’ s first wind farm project in the United States, and also its first MW-level wind farm project in overseas areas.

In December 2010, Goldwind USA won a competitive bid to provide power from the Shady Oaks project, fully owned by TianRun Shady Oaks LLC, a subsidiary of Goldwind, to utility home wind turbines Commonwealth Edison from June 2012 over a term of 20 years.

The landmark 109MW Shady Oaks project is the first large U.S. wind farm to use Chinese-made turbines — Goldwind’s 1.5MW direct-drive permanent-magnet turbines.

Tim Rosenzweig expects construction of the Shady Oaks project to start in late spring or early summer, and be completed by the end of 2011.

Wu Gang, Goldwind board chairman, said “The Shady Oaks project, our first scaled and commercial facilities in the United States, reflects substantial recognition in the American market of our turbines. It opens a road for us to go on exploring the American market.”

So far, Goldwind, the world’s largest maker of direct-drive permanent magnetic wind turbines, has about 3,500 such turbines installed and integrated to the grid.

2010, 308 newly installed European upper hand in the Taiwan Strait power units, compared with 2009, offshore wind power installed capacity increased by 51%, the European offshore wind power has experienced record growth. The same period, the new European land-based wind power installed capacity 8.4GW, a decrease of 13.9%. This trend of wind power into the sea, in Europe has become increasingly apparent.
June 8, 2010, Asia’s first offshore wind farm in Shanghai Donghai Bridge 3MW project, 34 completed the Taiwan Strait upwind turbine commissioning, all of the grid into operation. To “Europe first offshore wind farm outside” as the beginning of China’s wind power has taken the step into the sea, and caused the global wind power generators industry attention.
The first round of offshore wind power in China has opened the tide. Against this situation, the wind, sharp and Xiang of China and other major electrical wind turbines manufacturers out of step, the reasons behind the deep thought-provoking.
October 2010, China’s first round of offshore wind power concession bidding round result, a successful bid Sinovel coastal, Sheyang two offshore projects, a total of 60 million kilowatts, accounting for 60% of the amount bid, but let the industry Surprisingly, the whole second tier of the Shanghai Electric Goldwind actually able to have equal shares, scored the final 20% share, and is known as “China’s wind power leader,” the performance of the gold wind technology industry is another disappointment.
This seems to be confirmed Goldwind has a working relationship in the U.S. market, CEO of developer MainstreamRenewablePower O’Connor (EddieO’Connor) discussed the wind of gold: gold wind technology to the development of offshore wind power not too interested.
As the world’s fourth wind power equipment suppliers Goldwind, in the global wind power industry is set off by the tide to enter the offshore wind power, hesitate before, indeed, puzzling.
I know that the wind turbine in the world, more than 85% growth in compact gear unit, especially in technology, stability and reliability in demanding marine unit, without exception, all adopt the technology is mature and reliable such technology and good programs, including 2 MW, 2.3 MW, 3 MW, 3.6 MW, 5 MW and other models at all levels, vendors, including Vestas, Siemens, Repower, Sinovel so all the major offshore small  wind turbine manufacturers. So far, in addition to a Goldwind 1.5 MW test unit, the world has not within the first 2 sets of direct-drive unit into the sea. The golden wind of this unit from November 8, 2007 has achieved full power operation, has reached three and a half years, from the current Goldwind offshore wind power in the slow progress in terms of visibility, the unit’s operation is not optimistic . Direct drive permanent magnet unit is suitable for use as offshore wind turbine?
Permanent magnet direct-drive industry at home and abroad to the sea, has the same concern: At present, rare earth permanent magnet material in the unit cost is very high, and is currently the most used Ru-Fe-B rare earth permanent magnet sensitive to temperature and poor thermal stability, when the ambient temperature will exceed the value of the demagnetization; Permanent Magnet by vibration, temperature and role overload current, the magnetic performance may be reduced or demagnetization phenomenon occurs, will reduce the performance of permanent magnet motor, but also severe damage to motor. Early development of small-scale wind generator have serious permanent magnet demagnetization, the phenomenon of failure and thus can not generate electricity, which is where the problem has not perfect solutions. In addition, rare earth permanent magnet materials easily oxidized materials, and produce the electrochemical reaction, in the case of sea salt spray corrosion strong problem difficult to resolve; the same time, there is a permanent magnet materials, strong magnetic, can not repair under field conditions So if there are problems that only manufacturers can repair to return the scene is not maintainable, to run a big risk. Furthermore, from the perspective of operation and maintenance, direct-drive generator unit weight of large size, the replacement of maintenance inconvenient, reservation required professional installation vessel or large floating cranes to complete the work, but the installation of the world currently available large floating crane vessels and very few , and the scheduled timetable needs at least one year in advance, so the fault processing time can not be guaranteed. And the use of high cost of large offshore loading vessels, so the time cost of its maintenance costs are relatively high and the economy.
Recently, Kim, chairman of Wuhan Iron and Steel Wind Technology, said in an interview, direct-drive permanent magnet technology, lost a gear box that links directly into the permanent magnet wind turbine generator to generate electricity, thus reducing the hundreds of parts in 20 years without any maintenance during use, without the loss of power generation more efficient. The really eye-catching high-profile position.
According to industry reflected Goldwind specifically for the “Green Olympics” to build wind farms in the Beijing Guanting some fans, since the installation has been running since the cabin is because failure resulting in the overall unloaded more than to return the product to be repaired.

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has secured an order from China Longyuan Power Group to supply 24 units of the V80-2MW small wind turbine which will be installed in Putian County in the Chinese province of Fujian.

The order includes supply, installation and commissioning of the turbines, a Vestas Online SCADA system and a service and maintenance agreement.

Delivery of the turbines is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2011.

Vestas China president Jens Tommerup said that in 2011,Vestas is stepping up its efforts to deliver more sophisticated service solutions in China.

Longyuan and Vestas have been working together since 2005 and the joint efforts have resulted in more than 500MW of wind energy projects to date.

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has signed its first order in 2011 with China Longyuan Power Group, the country’s largest renewable business in terms of generation, for 24 2 MW wind turbines.

The turbines, which are the V80 model and will generate a total of 48 MW of power, will be installed in Zhongmen, Putian County in the coastal province of Fujian in south eastern China.

Longyuan and Vestas have been working together since 2005 installing 360 small  wind turbines and generating more than 500 MW of wind projects so far.

Longyuan chief executive, Xie Changjun, said: “In 2011, we are stepping up our efforts to deliver more sophisticated service solutions in China.

“This means we will make full use of our unique skills to provide our customers with tailored, timely and comprehensive solutions – while at the same time keeping safety and quality our top priority.”

Vestas installed China’s first wind turbines in Shandong in 1986, and as of 31 December 2010, Vestas has installed almost 3,000 MW of clean

wind turbine manufacturer Keppel Prince is at the centre of a political tug-of-war after being bypassed in favour of a Chinese firm.
The row started when the major employer revealed that those behind a 13-tower wind farm near Hamilton were planning to import turbines from China.

Regional cities minister Denis Napthine said the purchase of Chinese-made wind  turbines would cost south-west jobs and contradicted claims made by Prime Minister Julia Gillard that a carbon tax would create hundreds of new positions in the renewable energy sector.

“The irony is that these Chinese wind towers will be imported through the port of Portland, right under the noses of the Keppel Prince workers,” the Liberal MP said.

“(These towers will also go) directly past the Vestas wind-blade manufacturing plant that was closed in December 2007, costing 136 local jobs under the watch of both a former Labor government in Victoria and the federal Labor government.’

“I call on the federal government to match its rhetoric on local job creation through a renewable energy target scheme with real action to ensure that wind towers for the Hamilton Mortons Lane wind farm and other Australian wind farms are built by Australians, in Australia, creating Australian jobs,” Mr Napthine said.

The South West Coast MP said the federal government should also guarantee that wind towers imported in the country fully meet Australian standards for strength, design and safety.

A spokeswoman for Climate Change Minister Greg Combet refused to directly comment on the purchase of Chinese-made turbines for the Hamilton wind farm.

She said ongoing uncertainty over a carbon pricing scheme was to blame for decreased confidence in the renewable energy sector.

“The federal government is committed to providing appropriate assistance to these industries to help support jobs and competitiveness during the transition to a clean energy future.”

Wannon MP Dan Tehan said the federal government’s claims of job generation through growth had been damaged by the revelation that Chinese imported small wind  turbines were being erected in the south-west.

Thomastown MP Bronwyn Halfpenny claimed this week that the state government’s policy of allowing landholders the right of veto power over wind farm developments would damage the viability of manufacturers such as Portland-based Keppel Prince.

She called on Planning Minister Matthew Guy to visit the factory and meet with the firm’s general manager Steve Garner.

A tool to accurately assess the impact on U.S. radar systems by wind farm turbines will be developed by a Raytheon-led team under a U.S. government contract.

The monetary value of the award and other details of the contract from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security weren’t disclosed.

Raytheon, in a news release, noted that wind farms interfere with the tracking of aircraft and weather because the wind turbines create a Doppler effect, a phenomenon that could lead to radar blackout zones.

“Raytheon’s 60-year legacy in the design and wind generators manufacture of radar systems strongly qualifies us to provide an innovative solution to the problem,” said Andy Zogg, Raytheon Network Centric Systems vice president of Command and Control Systems. “With the introduction of our highly reliable tool, (Homeland Security) will be able to better manage approvals of wind farm applications, allowing for clean and renewable wind energy resources.”

Raytheon said its team on the project includes Analytical Graphics, Inc. and Remcom, Inc.

The team will deliver their solution to the Homeland Security Department’s Directorate of Science and Technology, Special Projects Division.

The process has begun for the first company to seek an application to construct wind turbines in Vermilion County.

Four different companies have confirmed preliminary plans in recent years to locate all or part of wind turbine projects in Vermilion County.

County Board Chairman Jim McMahon said Tuesday a representative from International Power filed an application with the county for the Hoopeston Wind Project. The project calls for the construction of 49 wind turbines south of the village of Reilly between County Roads 3800N and 3500N. The site is about three miles south and two miles east of Rankin.

The permit fee cost to International Power is $1,000 per turbine.

Unlike other counties that are the site of wind farms, Vermilion County does not have countywide zoning. A wind turbine ordinance, passed by the Vermilion County Board in January 2009, compensates for that by creating a building-permit format that oversees companies that want to build turbines in the county.

The application includes a summary of the location and number of turbines, any relevant studies as well as any additional system construction and must be approved by county officials.

The county safety committee oversees the application for wind turbine projects in the county. McMahon said tentative plans are for a committee meeting in Rossville, although a date has not been set.

Once the committee approves the application, the hope is to bring the application for the Hoopeston Wind Project before the full county board in March.

McMahon said the first economic development of the year will “put a lot of people to work,” creating a small amount of permanent jobs and a larger number of contracts for workers in gravel, sand, concrete, electrical and others.

McMahon said the county has been meeting with other companies regularly about wind generators projects, but did not indicate which ones. Horizon, Invenergy Wind Development and Eco-Energy have each initiated plans for specific wind turbine projects in the western and southern parts of the county.

McMahon has said that BP and Iberdrola have inquired in the past about potential projects.
